food fighThe lives of many Americans are out of balance–not enough rest and pleasure, and too much stress and work.  Long term stress can drain your adrenal glands of the raw materials and energy needed to make adrenal hormones.

Food, including vitamins, minerals and herbs can function as an adrenal tonic which gently corrects the adrenal fatigue.

Dietary Considerations

  1. Deficiency of virtually any vitamin or mineral , that is derived from food can cause fatigue of the adrenal glands if it persists long enough.  A balanced and organic diet consisting of poultry, fish, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, raw seeds and nuts will tonify your adrenals and enhance your resiliency to stress.

Vitamins and Minerals

II.            Pantothenic Acid:  Also known as vitamin B-5, can help correct adrenal deficiency.  It is widely distributed in nature and occurs in the following foods:

royal jelly
corn
sweet potatoes
brewers yeast
broccoli
cauliflower
brown rice
egg yolk
green peas
sunflower seeds
salmon
lentils and other legumes
soybeans
liver

III. Vitamin C and A are precursors to support adrenal function and are richly supplied in the following list of foods:

spinach
egg yolk
kale
dandelion greens
collard greens
cantaloupe
carrots
swiss chard
broccoli
yams
turnip greens
red bell pepper
parsley

IV. High potassium, low sodium foods are also considered adrenal tonifiers –

avocado
dried apricots
chicken
tomato (raw)
banana
salmon
potato
cantaloupe
tuna
lima beans
peach
cod

V.            Chinese Medicine:  According to the ancient science of Chinese medicine, the adrenals are connected to the Kidney network.

If your symptoms include dizziness, craving for sweets or coffee in the afternoon, craving for bread, get shaky when hungry, sleepy after meals, you may try foods which nourish Kidney yin

spirulina
berries
egg
seaweed
melon
crab
beans
sardines

If however your symptoms include aversion to cold, cold extremities, pale complexion, mental lethargy or poor spirit, food which nourishes Kidney yang are more appropriate–

cloves
black beans
chicken
black pepper
onion
garlic
trout
walnuts
quinoa
salmon

Give me a call if you need help with fatigue or adrenal exhaustion.
